Day 1: Traditional Flavors & Master Crafts in Amatlán
Your morning begins with a scenic transfer from Tepic to Ahuacatlán, where a traditional breakfast sets the tone for a day of discovery. From there, we journey to the heart of Amatlán de Cañas for an intimate encounter with the region’s culinary roots.
A Sensory Workshop Our first stop is Lácteos La Güera, a boutique cheesemaking workshop. Guided by local women producers, you’ll learn the guarded secrets behind their signature fresh cheese. The sensory journey continues with a visit to Chocolatería Ma Lola, where the rich aroma of cacao fills the air. Here, you’ll participate in crafting your own artisanal chocolate bar using ancestral methods.
To round out the morning, we visit Galletería Olga Lidia. The warmth of the ovens welcomes you to a traditional baking workshop where you’ll knead, bake, and taste the town’s famous picones—a sweet, airy bread that is a staple of local life.
Highland Vistas & Historic Streets After these immersive culinary experiences, we gather for a leisurely lunch at Los Tucanes to savor regional delicacies such as lengua (tender beef tongue) served in vibrant green, red, or steamed sauces.
The afternoon takes a panoramic turn as we board the town’s signature mode of transport: the mototaxi. This charming ride whisks you away to the pier and a scenic lookout offering sweeping views of the rugged highland landscape. We conclude the day with a guided stroll through the Historic Center, visiting the Parish of Jesús Nazareno and the bustling municipal market—where the tranquil pulse of the town remains unchanged—before returning to Tepic.
