Day 1: Rock Art at La Pintada Ranch
La Pintada Ranch is located in a mountainous area south of Hermosillo and preserves one of the most important collections of rock art in Sonora. Surrounded by canyons, striking rock formations, and desert scenery, the site offers insight into the deep connection between nature and ancestral cultures.
Activities
We depart from Hermosillo toward La Pintada Ranch. During the journey, a boxed lunch is provided. Upon arrival, you will receive an introduction to the site along with general guidelines for the visit.
We begin the hike to the main cave, where the rock paintings are located. These images depict human figures, animals, and symbols associated with the ritual and daily life of the region’s ancient inhabitants. Throughout the visit, your guide will explain the historical, cultural, and natural context of the area.
The experience continues with hiking through the ranch and canyon landscape, observing the distinctive scenery of the Sierra Libre. At the end of the excursion, there is time to rest and enjoy the included meal before returning to Hermosillo.
