THE ROUTE

Avian Wonders & Untamed Nature: The Wild Side of Nuevo León

Day 1: Industrial Heritage & Mountain Heights

Today, we introduce you to Monterrey through the lens of its industrial past and its soaring natural borders.

Upon arrival at Monterrey International Airport, you’ll be escorted to the Holiday Inn Express Fundidora, located right beside the iconic Fundidora Park. This urban oasis is a fascinating “Site Museum,” where massive steel structures and vintage machinery stand as monuments to Nuevo León’s iron-working history.

After a local lunch, we head to the Chipinque Ecological Park. Here, a guided mountain hike offers your first birdwatching session. Keep your binoculars ready for the Mexican Jay, Elegant Trogon, Black-hooded Oriole, and the striking Painted Redstart. As the sun sets over the Sierra Madre, you’ll enjoy sweeping views of the city before returning to your hotel.

Day 2: The Quest for the Rare and Radiant

A day dedicated to the art of the find. We begin at 6:30 AM, heading toward the Santiago Grasslands in the Cielo Mágico region.

This morning’s field session focuses on the diversity of the plains and foothills. Our expert guides will help you spot the American Kestrel, Crested Caracara, Spot-breasted Wren, and the elusive Crimson-collared Grosbeak. After lunch, we transition to the lush woodlands of Vitroparque El Manzano. In this alpine setting, the soundtrack is provided by the Brown-backed Solitaire and the Hermit Thrush.

As evening falls, we travel to Linares, a “Magical Town” and the historic first episcopal seat of the Northeast, for check-in and a well-deserved rest.

Día 2

Day 3: Wetlands, Waterways, and Sugarcane History

Today is an immersion into one of the state’s most vital ecological treasures: the Baños de San Ignacio Natural Reserve.

This sanctuary houses the only Ramsar-listed wetland in Nuevo León. We’ll glide along the El Anegado River—the only navigable river in the state—on a rowing boat, providing a stealthy vantage point to observe the Bare-throated Tiger-Heron, Little Blue Heron, and the seasonal Sandhill Crane. After a refreshing stop at the hydrothermal pools for a healthy snack, we shift from nature to history.

We’ll visit the ancient Sugarcane Mill Aqueduct, a unique architectural relic of the Northeast. Here, you’ll step back 300 years into the era of the great haciendas and even try your hand at grinding cane in a traditional trapiche. We conclude with a farewell lunch in the heart of Linares before returning to Monterrey for the night.

Día 3

Day 4: A Gentle Departure

Savor a final breakfast at your hotel and enjoy a morning at your own pace—perhaps a last stroll through the park or a quiet coffee. At the scheduled time, we will provide a private transfer to Monterrey International Airport for your journey home.
