Walking Through a 2D Surreal Dream

2 days

A two-day route uniting nature and surrealism: from the turquoise waters of Puente de Dios to the work of Edward James in Xilitla, with tours through his sculpture garden, his castle, and local gastronomic experiences.

THE ROUTE

Walking Through a 2D Surreal Dream

Day 1: Puente de Dios and Xilitla

A first day dedicated to discovering one of the most attractive natural spots in the Rioverde region and living a night experience at the Edward James Sculpture Garden.

Activities: The journey begins with a transfer from Ciudad Valles toward Rioverde. Upon arrival, we enjoy a traditional breakfast before continuing the tour to the natural site of Puente de Dios (God’s Bridge). At this site, we descend to the blue pool for an aquatic activity and enjoy the landscape formed by caves, waterfalls, and crystalline waters surrounded by lush vegetation.

Subsequently, we continue the journey toward the Pueblo Magico of Xilitla. Upon arrival, we check into the hotel and have free time to rest or explore the surroundings. In the afternoon, we participate in an “entrance to the labyrinth” ritual, accompanied by a craft beer tasting. At nightfall, we begin the night tour of the Edward James Sculpture Garden, where surrealist structures and jungle vegetation create a unique atmosphere among lights, shadows, and forest sounds. At the end of the experience, the days activities conclude.

Day 2: The World of Edward James

A second day dedicated to deepening the knowledge of Edward James’ work in Xilitla before returning to San Luis Potosi.

Activities: The morning begins with breakfast before starting the tour of Xilitla. Subsequently, we move to Posada El Castillo, a medieval-style building commissioned by British artist Edward James, where we visit spaces linked to his life in the region. Afterward, we visit the Edward James Museum, which holds photographs, objects, and documents related to the artist and the development of his surrealist project in the Huasteca.

Later, we continue to the Edward James Sculpture Garden, also known as Las Pozas. During the tour, we walk among its monumental structures, stairs, columns, and platforms emerging from the jungle vegetation—one of the most unique surrealist art projects on the continent. Finally, we enjoy a tasting at James Brewery, accompanied by lunch. At the end of the experience, we begin the journey back to the city of San Luis Potosi, where the tour concludes.
