THE ROUTE

From Mezcal to the Sea of Oaxaca + Huatulco: Two Worlds, One Journey

Day 1: Arrival in Oaxaca

Your journey begins in Oaxaca, one of Mexico’s most vibrant and celebratory destinations.

Settle into your hotel and take the afternoon to explore at your own pace. Wander through colorful streets lined with colonial architecture, step into galleries and cultural centers, or simply claim a table at a café and watch the city unfold around you. Oaxaca’s culinary scene alone is worth the trip—moles, tlayudas, craft chocolate, and mezcal bars tucked behind centuries-old facades invite you to linger.

Día 1

Day 2: Monte Albán & The Art of Oaxaca

Today is devoted to history and artistry.

Begin at Monte Albán (entrance included), the majestic Zapotec capital perched high above the Oaxaca Valley. Its sweeping terraces and ceremonial platforms tell stories that stretch back more than a millennium.

From there, travel to San Antonio Arrazola or San Martín Tilcajete, villages famed for their vividly painted alebrijes. Step inside a family workshop to see how these fantastical wooden creatures are carved and brought to life—each piece a work of imagination and patience.

The day concludes in San Bartolo Coyotepec, where artisans shape and polish the region’s iconic black clay pottery, a craft both ancestral and enduring.

Día 2

Day 3: Mitla & The Mezcal Route

The third day blends natural wonder, archaeology, and Oaxaca’s most celebrated spirit.

First stop: the legendary Tree of Tule, a Montezuma cypress over 2,000 years old, whose massive trunk reveals shapes said to resemble animals and mythical figures.

Continue to Teotitlán del Valle, a Zapotec weaving town known for handwoven rugs dyed with natural pigments using techniques passed down through generations.

Then explore the archaeological site of Mitla (entrance included), known as the “City of the Dead,” celebrated for its intricate geometric stone mosaics. In the local market, sample traditional nieves before heading to a mezcal palenque. There, learn about the artisanal production process—from roasting agave hearts underground to distillation—and savor different expressions of this smoky, complex spirit.

Día 3

Day 4: Transfer to Huatulco & City Tour

Bid farewell to the highlands and travel toward the Pacific coast, where a new landscape awaits.

Upon arrival in Huatulco, settle into your hotel and enjoy time to relax before exploring scenic viewpoints, the town center, and local artisan workshops.

Huatulco is a favorite for surfers, beach lovers, and eco-travelers alike. Its 22 miles of coastline encompass nine bays framed by lush jungle, extraordinary biodiversity, and a commitment to sustainable development.

Día 4

Day 5: Bay Tour by Boat

Set out by boat to explore Huatulco’s famed bays, where turquoise waters meet dramatic cliffs and dense tropical vegetation. A stop along a coral reef offers the chance to snorkel in warm, crystal-clear waters.

The nine bays shelter 36 beaches—some lively, others blissfully untouched. This ecotourism haven is celebrated for its biodiversity, year-round sunshine, and careful preservation of its natural environment.

The day includes a fresh seafood lunch in Maguey Bay, the perfect seaside pause.

Día 5

Day 6: Departure from Huatulco

Your final morning invites one last embrace of the Oaxacan coast. Take an early stroll along the beach, feel the warmth of the sun on your skin, and savor the unhurried rhythm of the Pacific.

At the designated time, transfer to Huatulco International Airport for your return home—carrying with you the flavors of mezcal, the echoes of ancient civilizations, and the serene beauty of the sea.
