Two Giants of Nayarit: Adventure in the Sangangüey and Ceboruco Volcanoes

The expedition begins in the heart of Tepic. After a restful stay at the Hotel Real de Don Juan, the day kicks off with breakfast at Casa 164, a hidden gem in the Historic Center that provides the high-energy fuel needed for the ascent of the Sangangüey Volcano.

Standing at an altitude of 2,340 meters (7,677 ft) above sea level, this guardian of the valley requires a moderate-to-high intensity hike. Every step is rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the Nayarit landscape.

Leaving the urban noise behind, we will set up camp to enjoy an outdoor dinner. The day culminates with a stargazing session under some of the clearest skies in the region, allowing the mountain’s silence and the vastness of the cosmos to prepare us for a night in the heart of nature.

Day two begins with an unforgettable sunrise from the summit of Sangangüey, watching the horizon bathe in golden light. After the descent, we head to Coapan for a traditional breakfast at El Rincón del Campesino, recharging for the second titan of our journey.

Before the next climb, we’ll visit a local volcanic stone workshop, where skilled artisans transform basalt into works of art, connecting local geology with culture. The adventure continues with the ascent of the Ceboruco Volcano, an active giant known for its unique atmosphere of steam fumaroles and lunar landscapes.

After a moderate trek, the excitement reaches its peak with a paragliding flight from its slopes. This is your chance to glide over the valley and admire the magnitude of the landscape from the clouds. To end on a high note, we’ll descend to the Pueblo Mágico of Jala to join a vibrant Callejoneada—a traditional street party with live Banda music—through its cobblestone streets before our final return.
