Day 1: Mangroves and Legends—Tracing the Footsteps of Aztlán
To make the most of our day, we’ll enjoy a box lunch during our transfer from the Ex-Convento de la Cruz in Tepic toward the La Batanga pier, our gateway into the Marismas Nacionales.
The adventure begins with a boat photo safari through estuaries and wetlands. Keep your camera ready as we observe local wildlife, including exotic birds and crocodiles in their natural habitat. Our journey continues toward the Island of Mexcaltitán, where we’ll indulge in a traditional feast centered around fresh shrimp. You must try the Tixtihuil, a rich shrimp stew famously known as the “Levantamuertos” (The Dead-Riser) or the ultimate “hangover cure.”
This hearty meal will fuel our cultural walking tour and a visit to “El Origen” Museum, which narrates the island’s profound historical connection to Mexico’s Pre-Hispanic past. The day concludes with a scenic boat ride back, as our guide shares fascinating insights into the conservation of the Americas’ largest feline—the Jaguar—and details about the sustainable fishing practices that sustain this ecosystem, before our final return to Tepic.
