THE ROUTE

Between Cenotes and the Summit of an Extinct Volcano

Day 1: From Tampico to the Depths of Aldama

After a hearty breakfast and a hot cup of local coffee to spark the senses, we depart from Tampico toward the municipality of Aldama. Here, your adventure begins along the region’s most emblematic Cenote Route.

Guided by local experts, we’ll venture into ancient caverns of immense historical value, characterized by massive stalagmites and natural skylights created by the sprawling roots of Higuerón trees. The day’s highlight is a visit to the world-famous El Zacatón. This record-breaking cenote is so deep it was used by NASA to test autonomous underwater vehicles designed for space exploration.

At the end of the day, enjoy some group downtime and a restful night in Aldama to recharge for tomorrow’s peak challenge.

Day 2: Conquering the Bernal de Horcasitas

Prepare for an early start to make the most of the daylight. We’ll transfer to the González Main Plaza to meet our certified mountain guides. Together, we’ll head toward the summit of El Bernal, a striking extinct volcano and a proud symbol of Tamaulipas due to its jagged, dramatic silhouette.

The primary activity is a challenging high-altitude hike, where you can observe a vast variety of regional flora and fauna, including a stop at the Virgin’s Cave (Cueva de la Virgen). From there, the real challenge begins: the final push to the very tip of Bernal de Horcasitas.

Once at the top, you’ll have time to catch your breath and witness the magnificent 360-degree views, perfect for world-class photos and videos. After descending to the foothills, we’ll head back to González for a well-deserved dinner before returning to Tampico late in the evening.
