Faith and Passion in Guanajuato: Spiritual Heart of the Bajio

This five-day journey invites you to discover the spiritual and historical essence of the Mexican Bajio. From the capital of Guanajuato to the geographic center of Mexico at Cerro del Cubilete, we will explore the symbols that define a nation's identity. It is a trip to feel the faith and walk the stages where Mexican liberty was born, culminating in the bohemian charm of San Miguel de Allende.

THE ROUTE

Faith and Passion in Guanajuato: Spiritual Heart of the Bajio

Day 1: Transfer from Guadalajara to Guanajuato

The tour begins with a ground transfer from Guadalajara to Guanajuato, a journey of approximately three and a half hours. Upon arrival, we will check into the hotel, and you will have a free afternoon to begin enjoying the unique atmosphere of this city, declared a World Heritage Site.

Día 1

Day 2: Treasures and Legends of the Capital

After breakfast, we will embark on a walking tour through the historic center to admire unique examples of Baroque and Neoclassical architecture. We will visit the emblematic Juarez Theater, the University of Guanajuato, and the city’s Basilica. While walking the cobblestone streets, we will see the Plaza de la Paz, the Diego Rivera Museum, and the romantic Alley of the Kiss. We will also visit the Hidalgo Market and the Alhondiga de Granaditas, a key site of the Independence. At night, we will experience a traditional Callejoneada accompanied by the music of the estudiantina.

Día 2

Day 3: Sites of Faith, Mines, and Panoramic Views

After a nutritious breakfast, we will head to Cerro del Cubilete to visit the majestic Christ the King Monument, a symbol of faith and a setting for the Cristero War. We will continue to the Sangre de Cristo Tourist Parador to see the Traveling Mummies Museum and enjoy views of the mining environment. On our way back to the city, we will visit the Valenciana Temple and venture into the depths of one of its most important mines. Finally, we will travel through the subterranean tunnels to reach the Pipila Monument to admire the best panoramic view of Guanajuato.

Día 3

Day 4: Roots of Freedom and the Mexican Sistine Chapel

We will transfer to the Pueblo Magico of Dolores Hidalgo to visit the Hidalgo House, the Parish of Sorrows —cradle of Independence— and the mausoleum of Jose Alfredo Jimenez. Afterward, in Atotonilco, we will see the Sanctuary of Jesus Nazareno, the “Mexican Sistine Chapel,” famous for its impressive mural painting. In the afternoon, we will walk the streets of San Miguel de Allende and finish with a tasting at its most famous craft brewery, accompanied by a delicious meal before returning to Guanajuato.

Día 4

Day 5: Return to Guadalajara

We will enjoy a last breakfast at the hotel to say goodbye to the city. Subsequently, we will undertake the transfer back to Guadalajara, concluding our services with a heart full of Guanajuato’s history and passion.
