Novillo Route Hiking Experience

Day 1: Cheese and Wilderness

The Sierra of Sonora sets the tone with traditional flavors, expansive desert-mountain vistas, and landmarks that speak to the rural origins of the region.

Activities

We depart for Mazatan, a small town renowned for its fresh regional cheese production, where you’ll enjoy a curated tasting experience. From there, continue to Rancho Nidopa for a bacanora tour, discovering the artisanal process behind Bacanora — a traditional Sonoran spirit deeply rooted in local culture.

Next, we head toward Cascada Seca, a striking rock formation offering panoramic views of the surrounding sierra. Here, we embark on a guided hike to fully appreciate the rugged terrain and dramatic scenery.

The route continues to San Pedro de la Cueva Canyon, where we explore the natural landscape and hike toward the cave entrance, taking in the sweeping views that define this remote setting.

Our next stop is La Pila, known for its thermal waters — an inviting pause to relax and enjoy the environment.

We close the day with a visit to the evocative ruins of Iglesia de San Francisco Javier de Batuc, a historic site that preserves the memory of former settlements and the region’s enduring heritage.
