Day 1: Wellness at the Summit of a Giant
Prepare to journey from Nayarit’s capital toward the state’s rugged highlands. Our first stop is the community of Coapan, where we’ll enjoy a traditional breakfast at El Buen Sabor. Afterward, you’ll participate in a herbalism workshop focused on Calendula, a golden flower used for generations for its healing and soothing properties.
The route continues with the ascent of El Ceboruco, an active stratovolcano rising 2,280 meters (7,480 feet) above sea level, known locally as the “Black Giant.” At its summit, amidst a unique volcanic landscape, you’ll immerse yourself in a wellness experience combining meditation and yoga. The energy of the earth and the crisp mountain air provide a one-of-a-kind setting for inner peace.
After descending, the journey moves to the heart of Jala for a traditional meal at Melva Restaurant, renowned for its authentic home-style cooking. This is followed by a walking tour of the Historic Center, where we’ll visit the main plaza and the Lateran Basilica of Our Lady of the Assumption. This 19th-century architectural jewel was built using the region’s signature pink quarry stone (cantera rosa) and stands as one of the most important cultural symbols of the town.
The day concludes with an artisanal workshop to learn the art of Totomoxtle—the dried corn husks used by local craftsmen to create intricate flowers, dolls, and traditional ornaments. It is a beautiful way to connect with the agricultural heritage of the region before returning to Tepic.
