Oysters and Mangroves in Nayarit
The journey begins with a scenic drive from Tepic toward Santiago Ixcuintla, where the day starts with a traditional breakfast in the heart of the Marismas Nacionales (National Wetlands).
Upon arriving at the coastal community of Boca de Camichín, we’ll dive into the local way of life with a visit to the Ostricamichín cooperative. Here, you’ll get an up-close look at the fishing culture and the community-based work system that defines this region’s identity.
The experience gets hands-on with a smoked oyster workshop, where you’ll participate in the artisanal process that transforms fresh catch into a gourmet delicacy.
Next, the adventure takes us to the Ecomata pier to board a panga boat and navigate through the mangroves, admiring the incredible biodiversity of these coastal ecosystems. Back on land, an artisanal craft workshop will allow you to use oyster shells to create handmade keychains and unique souvenirs.
The experience is topped off with a smoked oyster tasting just before heading to Juan El Pescador Restaurant for a traditional meal featuring the freshest seafood.
In the afternoon, the culinary journey continues with a gastronomic workshop in Los Corchos, where you’ll learn to prepare traditional oyster tamales—a cornerstone of regional Nayarit cuisine. Finally, the day winds down with some free time at the Boca de Camichín main plaza for last-minute shopping and community connection before our return trip to Tepic.
