THE ROUTE

The Brushstrokes of the Coronel Brothers: A Journey Through Art

Day 1: Universal Color

A first approach to Zacatecas through universal art and the creative force of Pedro Coronel.

Activities: Upon our arrival in Zacatecas, reception at the airport, bus station, or agreed point and transfer to the hotel for check-in. We begin the cultural experience “Universal Color,” dedicated to the legacy of Pedro Coronel, a Zacatecan artist who projected his work internationally without detaching from his identity.

We visit the Pedro Coronel Museum, located in the former convent of Santo Domingo, a 17th-century Baroque building. We walk through its rooms to see the masters personal collection, which includes works by Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro, Salvador Dali, Paul Klee, Marc Chagall, and Francisco de Goya, as well as pieces of pre-Hispanic, Oriental, and African art. Through the tour, we understand how his work dialogues with light, geometry, and spirituality, evoking fire, earth, and cosmos in poetic balance. Afterward, we have free time to walk through the historic center of Zacatecas, exploring plazas, cafes, and galleries that keep the citys artistic vocation alive. We close the day with free dinner and rest at the hotel.

Day 2: The Soul and Faces of Zacatecas

A day dedicated to understanding Zacatecan identity through the artistic and human legacy of the Coronel brothers.

Activities: We have breakfast at the hotel and then head to the Rafael Coronel Museum, located in the former convent of San Francisco, the first Franciscan convent in the city. We walk through its rooms to see one of the most important collections of ritual masks in Mexico, with more than 10,000 pieces from different regions of the country, as well as work by the master Rafael Coronel, whose figures explore expression, melancholy, and the identity of the Mexican people.

Subsequently, we visit the Coronel Brothers Family Home, a space that preserves the memory and creative environment that marked their artistic training. Here we understand the relationship between family, territory, and art that shaped their work. In the afternoon, we have free time to explore the historic center of Zacatecas or optionally participate in the traditional Zacatecan callejoneada, a festive experience that wanders the citys alleys with music and popular expressions. At the indicated time, we transfer to the airport, bus station, or departure point to conclude the tour.
