Day 1: Mausoleums and Chapels of Magdalena de Kino

Widely regarded as one of Sonora’s most emblematic historic cities, Magdalena de Kino stands out for its missionary legacy, striking religious landmarks, and enduring influence on the region’s development.

Activities

Departure from Hermosillo is at 8:00 a.m., heading north toward Magdalena de Kino. A boxed lunch is provided during the journey.

Upon arrival, the tour begins at the iconic Templo de San Ignacio, one of the municipality’s most recognizable landmarks. From there, enjoy a leisurely walk through the Plaza Monumental and along the Pasillo de los Arcos — vibrant public spaces that anchor daily life and community gatherings.

The route continues to the Parroquia Santa María Magdalena and the Capilla de San Francisco, where the region’s missionary heritage and ecclesiastical architecture come into focus.

A visit to the Municipal Palace offers insight into local history through a series of murals that narrate defining moments in the town’s past.

The itinerary also includes the mausoleum of Eusebio Francisco Kino, a pivotal figure in the evangelization and development of northern Sonora, as well as the mausoleum of Luis Donaldo Colosio.

After a full day of exploration, the group returns to Hermosillo.
