Yucatan Beaches: Mangroves, Ruins, and the Emerald Coast

2 days

A two-day route along the northern coast of Yucatan that visits mangroves, the beaches of Progreso and Telchac, the Xcambo archaeological zone, and salt landscapes. We start and end at the beach!

THE ROUTE

Yucatan Beaches: Mangroves, Ruins, and the Emerald Coast

Day 1: Swings in the Sea

A first day dedicated to enjoying the coast of the so-called Yucatecan Riviera and its mangrove landscapes.

Activities: The journey begins with a transfer from Merida toward the northern coast of Yucatan. Upon arrival, we take a tour to Isla Columpios (Swings Island), a spot surrounded by mangroves where you can enjoy the sea in shallow waters and use the swings installed over the water—one of the most famous settings in the area.

Subsequently, we head to the port of Progreso, where we enjoy lunch and take a walk along the traditional boardwalk (malecon) to appreciate the coastal atmosphere, the pier, and the port life. At the end of the walk, the days activities conclude.

Day 2: Xcambo and Telchac Puerto

A second day dedicated to discovering Maya vestiges of the coast and the salt landscapes of the Yucatecan littoral.

Activities: The journey begins with a transfer from Merida toward the Xcambo archaeological zone, an ancient port and commercial exchange center of the Maya civilization linked to the trade of salt and other regional products.

Subsequently, we visit the nearby salt ponds (charcas salineras), where we observe the unique salt production landscapes on the northern coast of Yucatan. The experience continues in Telchac Puerto, where we visit a beach club to enjoy the sea, the clear sands of the coast, and local gastronomy based on fresh fish and seafood.
