THE ROUTE

The Heart of Veracruz: A Highlands Odyssey

Day 1: Orizaba – Where History Meets the Sky

Our adventure begins in Orizaba, affectionately known as the “City of Joyful Waters.” After breakfast, we visit the iconic Iron Palace (Palacio de Hierro). This architectural jewel, designed by Gustave Eiffel, is the only metal palace of its kind in the world and houses fascinating museums dedicated to both beer and soccer.

After visiting the Cathedral, we’ll ascend via cable car—one of the highest in Mexico—to the summit of Cerro del Borrego. From the Atalaya lookout, you’ll enjoy breathtaking panoramic views before exploring the hilltop museum. We’ll round out the afternoon with a regional feast and a visit to the Poliforum, a cultural hub where local art and history converge.

Day 2: Legends, Fantasy, and a Night on the Town

Spend the morning admiring the murals of the Municipal Palace and taking a leisurely stroll along the scenic river walk.

The cultural journey continues at the State Art Museum, home to a world-class collection, before we dive into the fantasy world of Casa Vegas. This medieval-themed park features knightly spectacles, a “dragon’s nest,” and the refreshing springs of Ojo de Agua. As night falls, the city truly comes alive with a traditional Callejoneada—a walking musical celebration filled with legends and songs that reveal Orizaba’s secrets under the stars.

Day 3: Córdoba – The Soul of Coffee

Today, we travel to the “City of the 30 Knights” to immerse ourselves in the world of premium coffee. We’ll begin at the Coffee Museum before heading to a local finca (estate) for a complete sensory experience. You’ll follow the journey of the bean from the branch to the cup, culminating in a professional tasting and an authentic comida de rancho (ranch-style lunch).

In the afternoon, we’ll explore the majestic ruins of the Ex-Hacienda Toxpan, a historic site that whispers tales of Veracruz’s colonial past, before returning to Orizaba for a relaxed evening at your leisure.

Day 4: Zongolica – Into the Sierra

On our final day, you have the opportunity to explore Zongolica, an authentic paradise hidden deep within the Veracruz mountains.

This optional excursion is designed for those who want to connect with the raw power of nature—a day of lush jungle landscapes and misty mountain trails that provides the perfect, tranquil conclusion to your Highlands tour.
