THE ROUTE

Country Flavors: Oregano, Fire & Northern Soul

Day 1: Monterrey — Industry Reimagined

Monterrey welcomes you with a skyline where steel and history have been transformed into green spaces, cultural venues, and contemporary gathering points.

Activities

Upon arrival at Aeropuerto Internacional de Monterrey, you’ll be transferred to Holiday Inn Express Fundidora, ideally located beside one of the city’s most emblematic landmarks.

Once the beating heart of Mexico’s steel industry, Parque Fundidora is now a dynamic urban sanctuary — expansive lawns, scenic walking paths, and open-air spaces that invite both locals and visitors to linger. Recognized by Instituto Nacional de Antropologia e Historia as a Museum of Industrial Archaeology, the park preserves its colossal furnaces, factory halls, and original machinery as part of a remarkable open-air collection unique to Nuevo León.

With your hotel just steps away, the afternoon is yours to explore this fascinating fusion of history and reinvention before returning to rest.

Day 2: Oregano, Open Fire & Regional Roots

Today ventures into the rugged landscapes surrounding Monterrey, where mountain communities preserve culinary traditions and sustainable local enterprises. The day culminates in one of Nuevo León’s most beloved Pueblos Mágicos.

Activities

After breakfast, depart for Higueras, a small town known for its wild oregano harvest and its deep connection to the Sierra de Picachos.

Upon arrival, enjoy a hearty ranch-style breakfast before visiting the IDEAS Center, where members of the Sierra de Picachos Association share insights into regional conservation efforts, community development, and sustainable land use.

The experience continues at a working ranch dedicated to oregano cultivation, sheep farming, and artisanal winemaking. Here, you’ll discover the production processes firsthand and savor a curated tasting that captures the essence of the land. A traditional regional lunch provides a flavorful finale to your time in Higueras.

Return to Monterrey for a brief rest before heading out again in the late afternoon to Santiago. There, under the guidance of the Mexican Grilling Society of Nuevo León, you’ll take part in a hands-on parrilla experience — mastering essential grilling techniques and preparing your own dinner over open flames.

After an evening of smoke, spice, and camaraderie, return to Monterrey for a restful night at the hotel.
