Flavors and Living Waters of San Pedro Lagunillas

San Pedro Lagunillas: A Realm of Tradition and Serene Waters

The journey begins at the Ex-Convento de la Cruz in Tepic, heading toward the municipality of San Pedro Lagunillas. After a one-hour scenic drive, we arrive at the San Pedro junction for a traditional breakfast at La Arenita Restaurant, the perfect start to our day.

Next, we head to the heart of San Pedro for a walking tour through its main streets. You’ll visit the central plaza and the Parish of San Pedro Apóstol, a colonial architectural gem dedicated to the town’s patron saint. Later, participate in a crystallized fruit workshop, one of the most iconic artisanal traditions of the region.

By midday, the experience dives into a very peculiar local tradition: the “Cola de Rata” workshop. This is an ancestral fermented beverage crafted from arrayán (tropical highland fruit) and guava. During the activity, you’ll learn about its ancient origins, the fermentation process, and enjoy a guided tasting.

In the afternoon, Colosio Park welcomes us with a brief canoe handling session. Afterward, you’ll embark on a paddling journey across the San Pedro Lagunillas Lagoon, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere and panoramic views from the water.

The day concludes with a lakeside meal at El Pescador Restaurant, where you can savor local delicacies like mojarra dorada (golden fried tilapia). Before heading back, we’ll make a final stop at the main lookout point to capture a photograph of the lagoon stretching into the horizon.
